Must Watch
- Teaching Content is Teaching Reading- A powerful 9-min video by the amazing Dr. Daniel Willingham on background knowledge & comprehension
- Jan Hasbrouck's 2021 presentation on fluency instruction to include the most recent SOR updates
- Orthographic Mapping (OM) Explained- This 15 minute video helps conceptualize OM and how children go from decoding words to recognizing all words by sight!
- 4 Word-Work Activities in 15 min or Less- Reading Simplified's Marnie Ginsberg skillfully demonstrates this incredibly effective speech to print routine that is aligned with OM principles and how children begin to store sight words to permanent memory
- Nelson's story- Every teacher should watch and share this video with loved ones who may have dyslexia. An incredible story of one man's struggle with dyslexia and how he finally conquered it with EBLI's speech to print approach. If that's not enough, you can listen to David Chalk's story with Melissa & Lori Love Literacy (tons of excellent podcast episodes here!!)
Must Listen
- Emily Hanford's podcasts- I would definitely start with her most recent 6-episode series "Sold a Story" then work your way to "At a Loss for Words" and "Hard Words"
- Nora Chahbazi's podcast/video interview- This is probably one of the best interviews I've watched/listened to! Nora highlights key issues, concepts, and essential elements of how to teach reading/spelling from a linguistic phonics speech to print (EBLI's Say, Spell, Read) approach.
